Upload an ISO disk from the local filesystem

To make new VM templates available in the platform, add them to the Catalog (also called the Apps library or Appliance library).

In private cloud, you can upload VM templates from a local filesystem in OVA format (multiple disks), or as an ISO file, or a single disk file.

This document describes how to upload an ISO disk from a local file to create a VM template.

Privilege: Upload virtual machine template

Before you begin:

  1. We recommend that you mount the ISO as a SATA drive. (warning) If you mount an ISO as an IDE drive, you cannot make changes to the drive in the platform.
  2. To be able to remove an ISO drive after you use it, specify an empty disk. Users can change the size of the disk before they deploy a VM

  • For very large files, it may be convenient to use another method of adding templates
  • If you do not have any hypervisors, the platform will convert the template into ALL possible hypervisor formats. So before you add templates to your Apps library, add your hypervisors to reduce unnecessary use of the NFS repository space. See /wiki/spaces/ABI54/pages/310743535

To add a new template from a disk in an ISO file:

  1. Go to Apps library → select datacenter  Templates

  2. Click the + add button and select Upload from local file

  3. Enter the General information to create a new VM template
    1. You must enter CPU and RAM for the VM but you can change it later
    2. For Icon enter the URL of the template's icon

See GUI Create template from local or ISO file General information
  4. Go to Disks and click the + add button
  5. Select Disk from ISO file
  6. Enter the details of the disk
    1. Recommended controllers for ISO disks are SATA or IDE
      1. If you select IDE, you cannot change the drive in the platform
    2. Users can change the size of the extra empty disk before they deploy a VM

See GUI Create a disk from an ISO file
  7. Click Save. The platform will send this disk to the hypervisor as the boot disk.

See GUI Create template from local or ISO file Disks added
  8. Optionally go to Variables
    1. The variables will be added automatically to new VMs. Users can edit the variables when configuring the VM

    2. After the VM deploys, users can then access variables in the guest

    3. Check your provider's documentation about variables, but generally you should not use them to store confidential information

See GUI Create template from local or ISO file Variables
  9. Go to Advanced
    1. For VMware you must set the VMware guest Operating system type to use to deploy the VM. To use the latest supported version, do not enter an OS version
      For more details, see:
    2. Enter the default User and Password for VMs created with this template

See GUI Create template from local or ISO file Advanced
  10. Click Save to create the template

After you save the template, you can edit the template and add more disks, edit, reorder and delete disks. You can also add a cost code.
