Configure allocation limit messages
The hard and soft limit messages display when users exceed allocation limits that the administrator can set at the enterprise, provider, enterprise in datacenter, and virtual datacenter levels.
For example, the administrator can set Allocation limits when they create a virtual datacenter.
For example, with a soft limit of 1 virtual CPU and a hard limit of 4 virtual CPUs.
- The user will exceed the soft limit if they deploy a virtual appliance with more than 1 CPU in the virtual datacenter.
- The user will exceed the hard limit if they attempt to deploy a virtual appliance with more than 4 CPUs in the virtual datacenter.
By default, the platform will display detailed messages. To change the configuration to display general or detailed messages:
- Go to Configuration → General
- In the top right-hand corner, click Edit
- Select or deselect the checkbox to Show details of soft limits when reached or Show details of hard limits when reached and click Save
Soft limit message
A Soft limit exceeded message popup will allow the user to to acknowledge the message and continue with the operation.
By default, the platform will display the detailed message with the limits, used resources, and requested resources.
For example, the limits are 5 CPUs, the users have 2 CPUs in deployed VMs, and they have requested 3 more CPUs.
When the details display option is not selected, the general message does not display the above details.
The platform will also display a soft-limits message (without details) when the users exceed soft limits at another level, for example, enterprise, enterprise in provider, or enterprise in location.
Hard limit message
There are two types of hard limit messages, depending on the hard limit details message option on the General page of Configuration View
By default, the platform will display a detailed hard-limits message, with the limits, used resources, and requested resources. Here the user is at the hard limit of 5 CPUs and they have requested another CPU.
When the details display option is not selected, the general message does not display the above details.
The platform will also display a hard-limits message (without details) when the user exceeds hard limits at another level, for example, enterprise, enterprise in provider, or enterprise in location.
