Virtual resource functional levels table

Abiquo virtual infrastructure is organized into three functional levels: virtual datacenters, virtual appliances and VMs.

Virtual datacenter level

At this level administrators can manage virtual datacenters that are logical groups of compute, network and storage resources, for example:

  • Restrict users to selected VDCs
  • Limit resources for a VDC
  • Assign a default network
  • Create private networks
  • Purchase public IPs
  • Manage firewalls (classic firewalls are at regional level)
  • Manage load balancers
  • Manage volumes and persistent VMs
  • Manage hard drives (API)
  • Manage VPNs
  • Restrict user roles in selected VDCs and define exceptions
  • Create alarms for built-in VM metrics and custom metrics

Virtual appliance level

At this level users can manage virtual appliances that are folders (logical groups) of VMs or containers, for example:

  • Deploy virtual appliances
  • Manage VM anti-affinity layers
  • View monitoring for VMs
  • Restrict virtual appliances

VM level

At this level users can manage VMs, for example:

  • Create and deploy VMs
  • Obtain VDC resources on a self-service basis and configure compute, network, and storage for their VMs
  • Restrict VMs by moving them to restricted VApps
