Create a cloud tenant
Introduction to Abiquo tenants
This document describes the essential basic steps to create a tenant that can be used in Abiquo.
In Abiquo cloud tenants are called enterprises: groups of cloud users with their own logical resources. Enterprises are managed in Users View.
API Feature
You can manage tenants in the Abiquo API. See EnterprisesResource. Using the API, the cloud administrator can also maintain Enterprise metadata such as contact details. When you create an enterprise in the API, you must assign it an allowed datacenter or public cloud region to allow the users of the enterprise to deploy virtual machines . You can assign one by creating an Enterprise-Datacenter Limit. See EnterpriseLimitsByDatacentersResource. The platform will then create a cloud location, which defines this relationship, so you can then manage location resources. See AllowedLocationsResource
The additional steps are:
- Control tenant resources
- Configure allowed datacenters for a tenant
- Reserve servers for a tenant
- Enter public cloud credentials for a tenant
- Enable Chef for a tenant
Create an Enterprise
When you create a new enterprise, first enter the enterprise name. Then enter details on the other Enterprise tabs as appropriate.
The users of the enteprise cannot deploy virtual machines until the enterprise is fully configured. The enterprise must be allowed to use one or more datacenters or public cloud regions. To deploy in a public cloud region, the enterprise must have public cloud credentials.

Datacenters
To set the datacenters and public cloud regions that an enterprise is allowed to access, edit the Enterprise and click the Datacenters tab.
Select one or more datacenters or public cloud regions in the left pane and drag and drop them into the "Allowed Datacenters" right pane.
Access to at least one datacenter or public cloud region is required in order to deploy virtual machines. The left pane contains datacenters, which are "Prohibited Datacenters" by default.
Datacenters Automatically Assigned to Current Enterprise on Creation
By default, when you create a datacenter or public cloud region, the platform only assigns it as Allowed for the current user's enterprise only.
Note that Allowed datacenters are working datacenters where users can deploy. This is different to an admin user having administration Scope to administer the infrastructure of datacenter.
Use the New Enterprise
After you create an enterprise, Abiquo will filter the enterprise display by the name of the new enterprise and select this enterprise. When you remove the filter by clicking the x beside it, Abiquo will display the enterprise list in alphabetical order. If your enterprise is on the first page, it will remain selected. Otherwise Abiquo will select All and display the first page.
If you are an administrator and you wish to work with an enterprise (and access its resources, such as templates, virtual datacenters, private networks and virtual machines), go to the Home View and switch to this enterprise.
