Control access to virtual hard disks feature

This feature enables users to create non-persistent hard disks on the hypervisor datastore. When the user undeploys the VM or detaches the hard disk the platform will destroy the data on the hard disk.

Users add hard disks as part of a VM configuration.

To manage hard disks:

  1. Go to myCloudVirtual datacenters

  2. Open a Virtual appliance and go to Virtual machines

  3. Edit a virtual machine and go to Storage

  4. Click + add and select Assign virtual disk

Assign a virtual disk to a VM
Assign a virtual disk to a VM
  5. Enter the details for the disk. The dialog may vary depending on the user’s privileges

Enter details of a virtual disk to assign
Enter details of a virtual disk to assign

Default access to the hard disks feature

By default the virtual hard disks feature is enabled for the platform but only the cloud administrator has the privilege to manage VM hard disks.

The standard user that can configure a VM will be allowed to modify existing disks, for example, to resize them, even if they do not have the privilege to manage VM hard disks.

Control access to the hard disks feature

To disable the option to create a hard disk when configuring a VM, go to ConfigurationGeneralEdit → deselect Show virtual machine hard disk tab option.

To enable other users to add, edit, and remove disks, assign the Manage virtual machine hard disks privilege.
