Scope concepts

Scope definition

A Scope is an access list that contains a list of resources (enterprises and/or datacenters) to allow or restrict access.

Use of scopes

You can use scopes to:

  1. Define a set of resources for a tenant and its users

  2. Define a set of resources for an administrator

  3. Define a tenant hierarchy

  4. Share resources with a group of tenants

  5. Share resources with a tenant hierarchy

  6. Create confidential pricing models

Scope assignments

The platform uses scopes for:

  1. Users

  2. Administrators

  3. Tenants

  4. Images (VM templates) and blueprints (VApp specs)

  5. Pricing models

Unlimited scopes

The Global scope is the default scope for the cloud administrator that always includes all resources and you cannot modify it.

You can also create unlimited scopes to allow all current and future enterprises and/or all current and future locations. The platform automatically adds new resources to an unlimited scope in its unlimited dimension/s. Only a user with an unlimited scope can create an unlimited scope in the same dimension/s as their scope.
