Dynamic dashboards

In Abiquo 5.3, the dashboards are now dynamic, and administrators and users can create new dashboards. Users can customize dashboards with a selection of widgets, which they can move and resize. And the platform now has a catalog of widgets, so users can add them to the dashboard canvases.

Users can now configure widget parameters and options. This includes the optional display of the filter combo boxes at the top of each widget.

For example, for the Enterprise resources widget from the Metrics page, the administrator can choose to display graphs and numbers, or only numbers. They can also select the metrics to display and reorder these metrics.

By default, the user with permission to manage a specific type of dashboard can add any available widget to the dashboards. To remove widgets from the catalog, the administrator can edit the UI custom client configuration file and add the widget list and set the widget availability attributes to false.

To resize widgets on a dashboard, the user must have permission to manage the dashboard. The user can click on the edge of a widget and drag to resize it. But if the widget has a scroll bar on the bottom or right-hand side, the user may not be able to resize in this direction.

The administrator can now modify the default dashboard. And by default, this dashboard and all tabs are now available to all users. Abiquo has removed the privileges from previous versions to Display hybrid dashboard tab, Display optimization dashboard tab, and Display VM cost view widget on Hybrid dashboard tab. The privileges to display billing data are still in use.

Administrators can now create new dashboards for resellers and for each tenant enterprise. And you can allow users to create their own dashboards. It is important to note that a user dashboard belongs to the enterprise that the user is logged into and will only display in that enterprise.

The platform displays the dashboards in the following order:

  1. Default
  2. Reseller
  3. Enterprise
  4. User

There are new privileges to manage dashboards at all of these levels, and because dashboard configurations are stored as JSON metadata, the privileges are to view and manage user and enterprise metadata.

  • Access user metadata (dashboards)
  • Manage user metadata (dashboards)
  • Access enterprise metadata (dashboards)
  • Manage enterprise metadata (dashboards)
  • Manage default dashboards

The Reseller dashboard will display if the enterprise has a reseller and if the user has the following privileges:

  • Access enterprise metadata (dashboards)
  • Manage users of all enterprises

To create a Reseller dashboard, the user requires the following privileges:

  • Access enterprise metadata (dashboards)
  • Manage reseller enterprises

The Last bills widget can now also display a line graph to more clearly show trends in your cloud costs.

Abiquo 5.3 also introduces some new widgets.

A new monitoring widget enables the user to display values from VM, scaling group, or virtual appliance monitoring on the dashboard.

The user can add more than one instance of the Entity monitoring widget to display metrics for their important systems.

A new Budget widget enables the user to display the percentage used of the configured budget.

A new Idle volumes widget can display any idle volumes in an enterprise or in a configured virtual datacenter.

The user can now create CPU and RAM usage panels like the ones on the default Optimization tab based on a single widget with multiple configurations.
