Use the Amazon RDS service

This page describes actions on the AWS RDS service using Abiquo XaaS. For details of how to monitor the service, see Service metrics.

List Amazon RDS instances

Abiquo can connect to your Amazon RDS account in a region and list the databases that are already running there. 

Privileges: Use location services, Use virtual datacenter services, AND Run actions on usable services, OR Manage virtual datacenters

 

To list AWS RDS instances in your account, and then optionally, onboard them into Abiquo.

  1. Go to myCloud → Locations or myCloud → Virtual datacenters 

  2. Select your AWS location and go to Service configurations

  3. Select AmazonRDSService

  4. On the right hand side of the screen, from the options menu, select List RDS instances

  5. Select an instance to onboard

    1. If you only have one instance, Abiquo will select it automatically

  6. Click Accept to add it to Abiquo

Abiquo will register the instance and users will be able to manage it using the actions on the Service options menu.

Create an Amazon RDS instance

To create an AWS RDS instance you will need an AWS DB subnet. When you create an RDS instance in the AWS UI, AWS will automatically create a DB subnet for your DB instance. 

  1. Go to myCloud → Locations or myCloud → Virtual datacenters 

  2. Select your AWS location and go to Service configurations

  3. Select AmazonRDSService.

  4. On the right hand side of the screen, from the options menu, select Create RDS instance

  5. Complete the dialog


    If there is only one DB subnet, Abiquo will select it automatically.

  6. Click Next, then complete any parameters that are specific to your choice of DB engine.

  7. Click Next and select the DB instance class

  8.  Click Accept to create the instance

Abiquo will create your instance. You can check its state by clicking on the state indicator. 

When the instance is ready, you can manage it with the actions on the service options menu.


Delete an Amazon RDS instance

To delete an AWS RDS instance first in Amazon, and then in Abiquo:

  1. Go to myCloud → Locations or myCloud → Virtual datacenters 

  2. Select your AWS location and go to Service configurations

  3. Select the AmazonRDSInstance

  4. On the right hand side of the screen, from the options menu, select delete

  5. Complete the dialog

  6. Refresh the state of the AmazonRDSService

  7. When the status indicator of the AmazonRDSInstance turns red, Abiquo has detected that the DB instance does not exist in AWS.
    Select the RDS Instance and at the bottom of the screen, click the trash bin delete button.

 


Check the state of the Amazon RDS service

The platform will connect to the Amazon RDS service to obtain details of the databases running in the service and the available resources.

To check the status and details of the Amazon RDS Service.

  1. Go to myCloud→ Locations

  2. Select an AWS location and go to Service configurations

  3. Edit the Amazon RDS Service and go to State

Abiquo displays details such as the usage, instances, and snapshots of RDS.
