Provision networking with SDN

This page describes how to provision networking with SDN in private cloud in Abiquo.

For details of how to provision networking in general, see Network provisioning guide

Flow chart

This page describes the steps in the section Provision networking with SDN

Before you begin

Before you provision SDN networks:

  1. Provision infrastructure. See Infrastructure provisioning guide

  2. Provision tenants. See Tenant provisioning guide

  3. Review Abiquo Networking Concepts. See Network provisioning guide

  4. For SDN networking, configure the SDN integration. See Configure the Abiquo NSX-T integration

    • Remember that the integration will require a separate license

Provision networks

This guide describes how to provision datacenter networks for tenants in private cloud datacenters with standard networking

If you have a separate network administrator role, check that they have the following privileges:

Privileges: Manage datacenter infrastructure elements, Manage datacenter infrastructure elements, Manage network elements, Manage devices

Create a device

The platform has integrations with network virtualization systems to offer features such as network blueprints, self-service firewall and load balancer policies, NAT, and VPNs. The platform uses a device to define an integration with an external system.

To create a device to define a network virtualization system:

  1. In your datacenter, go to Network → Devices

  2. Click the + add button

  3. Select the Plugin type. For NAT with NSX-T, select the NSX-T device type

  4. Enter a Name for the device

  5. For the User and Password, enter the credentials of the account that the platform will use to connect to the device

  6. For the Endpoint, enter the URL where Abiquo can connect to the device; usually requires HTTPS. As an example, for NSX-T: https://nsxt.my.ip.address/

  7. To restrict the device to a single enteprrise, select the Enterprise

Create a NAT network

For the NSX-T integration, the platform will create the NAT network in the infrastructure at the Tier-1 level.

  1. Go to InfrastructurePrivate

  2. Select a datacenter

  3. Go to Network → NAT

  4. Click the + add button

  5. Create networks with ranges of public IPs for NAT

    1. For the Netmask, enter the network mask in CIDR format.
For IPv4, the networks created in the platform the netmask can have a value from 16 to 30 inclusive, and for IPv6, it can have a value of 64, 56, or 48.

    2. For the Device, select the device that will manage the NAT network

Next steps

  1. Add IP addresses to the NAT network following the instructions in the Network provisioning guide

  2. If required, create public networks following the instructions in the Network provisioning guide
