Display Private Networks in Infrastructure

Private networks have private IP addresses and they are restricted within one virtual datacenter.

Users create private networks from virtual datacenters, so from the infrastructure, an administrator can:

  1. View network use
  2. Create IP addresses

To display private networks:

  1. Go to Infrastructure → Datacenter → Network → Private.

On the left of the Private network screen, an expanding tree provides network information ordered hierarchically by enterprise and virtual datacenter.

To filter the networks by enterprise, enter text in the search box.

When you click a private network in the expanding tree, the right pane shows the list of network IP addresses.

The default VLAN for a virtual datacenter may be either the auto-created private VLAN, named default_network, or another private VLAN, shown in bold, or an external VLAN. External VLANs are managed on the External tab and assigned to an enterprise's datacenters or virtual datacenters. You can override the default private network for a virtual datacenter in Virtual Datacenters view.

The PRIVATE IPs pane contains the detail of each of the IPs of the selected internal VLAN.

To sort by a column, click on the header of a column.

To navigate through the pages, use the page scroll.

Reserved private IPs are marked with a padlock symbol. The administrator can assign these IPs to VMs outside of the platform. See also Note about reserved private IPs for vCenter with DVS.
