Abiquo 5.2 introduces new screens in the user interface to display custom metrics for virtual appliances and scaling groups. Users can create and push custom metrics to virtual appliances and scaling groups and VMs, and many other entities using the Abiquo API or the Abiquo collectd integration.
To display virtual appliance metrics, the easiest way is to click the new metrics symbol on the virtual appliance cards.
This will open a new popup to display the custom metrics. And as usual, the user can select the metrics to display.
If you already have the virtual appliance open, you can go to the Monitoring tab. There is now a new page for the Virtual appliance metrics, in addition to Virtual machine metrics.
To display scaling group metrics, you can click the new metrics symbol on the Scaling group icon.
And if you have the scaling group open, you can click the new metrics button in the Scaling group view.
These buttons will open the new Scaling group metrics popup. On the Virtual machines page of the popup, Abiquo displays all the VM metrics.
On the Scaling groups page, Abiquo displays the custom metrics of the scaling group.
Scaling groups also have built-in metrics that are a composite of the VM metrics, and which have the same names as the VM metrics. The Abiquo UI does not display the built-in scaling group metrics but you can access them through the Abiquo API.
To create custom metrics using the Abiquo API, just follow this guide: Custom Metrics Resources. For details of how to use collectd, see Use collectd plugin for custom metrics.
