Add virtual machine templates to Abiquo
Abiquo offers users self-service deployment of VMs from the software templates in the Catalogue. This section is an introduction to how to upload templates in private cloud and import templates from public cloud
Upload templates into private cloud datacenters
You can upload software templates to private cloud datacenters.
Privileges: Upload virtual machine template, Access Catalogue view, Manage VM templates from Catalogue
The easiest way to add VM templates in private cloud is by uploading an OVA file in the UI:
You can upload an OVA file with multiple disks of one VM.
You can export compatible OVA files from VMware vCenter. See Export an OVA from ESXi vSphere 7 with OVF tool
You can also upload a virtual disk file or an ISO disk file in the UI.
If you upload a virtual disk file:
You must enter the disk format and capacity (deployed size).
To add more disks, you must save the template, then edit the template.
For an ISO file for installing an operating system or software, you can also add an extra hard disk for the install.
In private cloud, you can capture a VM that was created outside of Abiquo.
To add a template for the VM to the catalogue (so you can recreate the VM if it is destroyed), save the VM disks to create an Abiquo instance template .
Import templates from public cloud providers
In public cloud, VM templates are VM template definitions and provider disks or registry templates. Abiquo does not store disks.
To add templates in public cloud:
Search for VM templates in public cloud regions and import their VM template definitions into the Catalogue.
In public cloud, when you onboard a VM into the platform, Abiquo will automatically register its template in the Catalogue.
In vCloud Director, create an Abiquo instance template from the imported VM and Abiquo will automatically link to this new template.
Additional methods of adding templates
There are many ways to create templates in Abiquo, and they are summarized in the diagram below and described in this documentation about the catalogue. See Importing templates into the catalogue
