Automate actions on dynamic groups of resources by tags

Abiquo 6.0 enables users to select resources by tag filters to automate cloud actions in action plans. This feature is for automating cloud actions on dynamic groups of VMs and scaling groups.

To use the automation by tags feature, first add tags to your resources. For example, for VMs, see Add tags to a VM, and for a full guide, see Manage tags.

Then go to Control view and create an action plan.

Enter the General information as usual.

Then create an action and select one of the Tag options, for a virtual machine action or scaling group action.

A Tag filter dialog will open to select a target. It will display all the resources of the selected type. Enter tag search criteria and add them to the tag filter. For more details about how tag filters work, see Improvements to tag search and filters and Tag search filter examples

After you add your filters, only the filtered resources will display.

When you return to the action plan, you can then select an appropriate action for the resource, for example, to power on VMs.

When selecting by tags, you can run all actions for scaling groups, but for VMs you can only run the following actions:

  • deploy

  • power on

  • increase CPU

  • decrease CPU

  • increase RAM

  • decrease RAM

  • increase hardware profile

  • decrease hardware profile

After you add all of your actions, save the action plan.

Finally, create one or more triggers (based on Schedules or Alerts) to run the automation. For more details, see Create a trigger for an action plan and Manage budgets .
