Introduction

This document describes the basic installations of Abiquo, and the subsections describe the components of each configuration.

The main installations of the Abiquo platform are Monolithic and Distributed.

A monolithic installation is a single-server configuration used for testing.

Abiquo platform networking

The main networks of the Abiquo platform are shown in the following diagram of a distributed installation.Image Removed

The Management Network is used by the Abiquo platform components to manage the virtual resources.

The Service Network is used for virtual machine networking, and it includes:

  • Private Networks

  • External Networks

  • Unmanaged Networks

The Public Network is used to connect virtual machines VM to the Internetinternet.

The Storage Network is an optional fast network used to connect VMs to their virtual storageoptional and customers can configure it for their own environment.

These networks are also shown in the following diagrams.

Basic monolithic installation for testing

The scenario shown below is a basic Monolithic Install, which is suitable for testing environments only. In a monolithic configuration, the machine that is running the Abiquo Monolithic Server also contains the Abiquo Remote Services.

Initial distributed installation

The following diagram shows a Distributed Install with one Abiquo Datacenter. This configuration can support a multi-cloud environment with public cloud providers, as well as more than one Abiquo datacenter (even in the same physical data center). As you can see, here there are three separate servers running the Abiquo platform components: the Abiquo Server, the Abiquo Remote Services, and the Abiquo V2V Services.

This configuration can be the first step for ISPs and companies planning to deploy a complete cloud environment. Contact Abiquo for assistance in planning the deployment of the platform.

Multiple datacenters

The diagram below shows a basic scenario of the Abiquo platform with three Abiquo datacenters to highlight that each Abiquo datacenter must have its own Remote Services (including V2V Services) and NFS Repository, which stores the Catalogue (previously Apps library or Appliance library of VM templates).  Each datacenter can have access to a Remote Template Repository, which stores VM templates accessible to all Abiquo datacenters.
